Deflection. In what sense is there any mandate for a no deal Brexit, given that Vote Leave campaign literature explicitly said that a deal would be in place before triggering the legal process to leave?
Er, on that basis, no version of Brexit would be legitimate. Brussels always made clear it would not negotiate a trade deal until A50 was triggered
So Vote Leave garnered votes by promising something it was impossible to deliver? Let me ask again, on what basis is there a mandate for no deal Brexit when Vote Leave campaigned on there being a deal in place before leaving? There is no such mandate, is there?
If the organisation you're meant to negotiate with make it impossible to do then you have to opt for no deal. Your point is that the Leave campaign were too trusting of the EU. I think that we agree on.
That isn't my point. My point is the one I have made over and over again; that Vote Leave campaigned on the basis that a deal would be in place before we left the EU.
And the government said it would implement the result. People assume third parties play ball. They don't. It doesn't change the result of the vote.
Implement the result. Fine. But don't pretend that a mandate exists for no deal or that people voted to leave and not for a deal. Because they were told that there would be a deal.
They were: Boris, Fox, Davis, Raab and cabinet full of leavers (Mordaunt, McVey, Leadsom, Gove, Grayling, Cox, Hunt, Javid, Williamson, Truss) Pathetic to blame the failure on efforts of those who stayed and tried to work it out rather than the unicorns sold during the campaign
Well said, Julia. Yes, it's obvious the #Brexit process has been sabotaged these past few years by fifth-column Remainers, like, er, Boris Johnson (Foreign Sec 2016-8), Liam Fox (Trade Sec 2016-), David Davis (DExEU Sec 2016-8), and Dominic Raab (DExEU Sec 2018)...
But they were. Fox, Davis, and Johnson. That they hadn't a plan (still haven't) isn't 'Remainers' fault. Own your mess.
Davis & Johnson along with Raab were side lined and therefore resigned their posts. Theresa May had allowed Olly Robbins (Remainer) to take charge. The mess is therefore down to Remainers not wishing to fully Leave.
Aww, the poor babies. They were cabinet ministers, for God's sake, and the Civil Service desperately wanted leadership from them. The fact is they had no feasible plan of how to effect Brexit, so Robbins had to step in to make any progress.
That is your view of what happened. They and I have the complete opposite view. Once your position has been relegated to just a title (with Olly Robbins doing the work) they would have received criticism for not resigning. Olly Robbins did NOT step in AFTER they resigned.
He stepped in after they were found out. Remember, Davis wanted to negotiate Brexit with the EU27 individually. He didn't have a fucking clue, in other words.
Totally wrong again. David Davis had been negotiating and had an agreement however at Chequers Theresa May revealed that she had a different plan (Olly Robbins plan).
Cool story. Can I see that EU agreement on Davis' plan please?
Well I don't know exactly how I could actually SHOW you as his plan was discarded when TM brought forward her (Olly Robbin's)plan at chequers - the reason David Davis resigned.
Leavers were in charge imbecile
