This could never have happened under ANY other Commons Speaker. Bercow’s willingness to throw away the independence of the Speaker in his desperate bid to stay in the chair is an embarrassment.

The Parliament itself is an embarrassment.

The same Bercow who was grovelling all over war criminal Obama when he came to the UK

So Bercow allowed a Parliamentary vote: how in any way could that be a bad thing? Parliament, not government, is sovereign, and a parliamentary majority voted against the government. That’s how it works, for goodness’ sake! And… you wouldn’t have squeaked if the govt had won.

Bercow has now elevated the speaker to a position Parliament snatched away from King Charles I. An autonomous post above & beyond government. Many MPs are happy today but any future Speaker could use that power against the house. Rather Hitleresque.

Bercow has long exemplified the true nature of our political class; utterly untrustworthy, disingenuous and ultimately self serving.

I think that pretty much shows his independence. Clearly acting independently from the government in favour of sovereign Parliament. You seem to have simply misunderstood what parliamentary sovereignty means
