I think we should still divert lorries from Calais to annoy them

oooohh more French and EU bashing, sadly not a good joke in this xenophobic climate, I know, I have been on the receiving end of this. But hey I guess anything goes right?
-
Ah that famous French sense of humour

The Mayor cannot actually overrule the French Govt or their laws on customs, so nice words but carry no weight.
-
But it does suggest that the only reason they would do it is political gain. Seems the Mayor has more common sense then the EU commission and Remain MPs

So we can assume you agree then with other things the Deputy Mayor of Calais has said do you Julia? Rash. Too funny.

Dont forget that the Pound has lost 19% of its value against the dollar and 17% against the Euro .... The Pound actually has collapsed
-
Anything like that is purely down to the government's delaying causing uncertainty. It's not due to brexit itself which, if it had been handled properly and smoothly there would be certainty instead.
-
It dropped 10% in the 6 weeks following the vote so your assertion is false. The markets are reacting to the prospect of a no deal. Mays deal or Remain would likely see some recovery. No deal won’t.
-
That's only due to the irresponsible scaremongering done by the remain side during the referendum and that they're still doing. That everything is going to go wrong and we are so shit as a country we can't do anything without the EU holding our hand! It's like a company...
-
...trying to get investment but just telling investors that the company is shit and predict doom and gloom (even though it hasn't happened and is wild speculation). Do you think people will invest? No!
-
Investors examine the facts, the company prospects and the potential. They are best to ignore the companies views good or bad as they have a separate agenda. Sensible investors make their own observations and draw their own conclusions.

I feel sorry for the people Calais, they’ve been through a lot in the last few years. I wonder what their opinion if the EU is?

So you got angry at our parliament being sovereign but you're quite happy about a foreign body dictating what we will do? Remind me again what it is you want?

The claim was that the port at Calais wouldn’t go on a go slow or shut the port and would do their best to keep trucks flowing. Not that there wouldn’t be disruptions but that they would do their best to minimise them. Facts matter.

The deputy mayor of Calais has as much say over customs checks at the French national border as the mayor of Uxbridge has over UK border controls at Heathrow.
-
The Port of Calais’ President Chairman said on
#R4Today “there will not be more delays” following a No Deal Brexit, adding they have spent 12 months preparing for such an eventuality.

Seems the good people of Calais have more responsible and mature attitude to the situation than many of our politicians.
