Bloody parliament, how dare they attempt to assert their sovereignty.https://twitter.com/JuliaHB1/status/1082717983552823296 …

That’s not how our system works. We’re a representative democracy, with a sovereign parliament.
-
Rubbish. Parliament handed it to the people. That's why it was called a referendum.
-
And if the vote last night had been to reverse Brexit, you might have a point. It wasn’t: it was to make the executive a little more accountable to parliament in terms of how no-deal preparations are financed.

Just Imagine if Remain had won but the government said we'll leave anyway.
-
Yes, it would be chaos. Anyway, last night’s vote *wasn’t* to stop Brexit in any way, shape or form. It was to make the executive more accountable to parliament in the process.
-
The government are accountable to the electorate, and the democratic decision was to Leave. They are doing all they can to stop or limit it.

That's funny. A law lecturer who has no clue about sovereignty and the way we make our laws.
-
Errr..... there’s one person here who doesn’t understand the way we make our laws, but it isn’t me.
-
But you think our servants, (MPs) have sovereignty over their constituents. 17.4 million of the electorate voted to leave, it wasn't qualified by, if we get this deal, that deal or no deal. Binary choice, LEAVE. From day 1, MPs who made a different choice have tried to thwart it

Indeed! And in a parliamentary democracy the people speak through their MPs.
-
Except in the cases when MPs ask voters to take part in referendums. Do try to keep up.

That isn’t how it works. Parliament is sovereign. Actually always has been. Read, Julia. Read and learn.
-
Why don't YOU read and learn. Parliament handed over responsibility to the people when it voted for a referendum.
-
And, again, if the vote had been to reverse Brexit, you might have a point. It wasn’t. It was to make the executive more accountable to parliament in relation to no-deal preparations.

The people are sovereign in a republic. I think Her Maj calls dibs on the sovereign bit in this neck of the woods.
-
Wrong
-
Ah well, I tried.
-
Not very hard you didn’t. There was a point in history when you were right but then a maj signed a certain very famous document

-
I suppose when you start cutting off heads it does focus the mind. A separation of power and head if you like.
-
Yes i am sure it does
