When Gordon Brown was caught privately calling Gillian Duffy a bigoted woman he had the guts and decency to go straight round to her house and apologise to her face. How different the approaches to leadership some men take.

-
Yes, that will be the word “caught”...
-
It was viral, he only apologised because a radio interview played it back to him. Didn't do anything up until that point. "Forced" is the word.
-
That was the first time he was confronted with it, almost immediately after it happened. He wasn’t ‘forced’ to apologise any more than Corbyn has been by being told in Parliament that everyone knows what he said. Bizarre to distinguish the two.
-
It was in his next engagement, yes, but it's different circumstances. Corbyn left the commons for whatever reason and his spokesperson has responded. With Brown, his spokesperson put out a statement whilst he was on Vine, and then the Vine team played the clip to him live on air.
-
So, in both cases, spokespersons put out statements initially, before Brown/Corbyn were confronted with damning evidence. At that point, Brown chose to apologise and Corbyn did not. Again, I just don’t understand the desperation to distinguish these obviously v similar cases?
-
There's lots of people either side, to be fair. Point is, let's focus on Brexit and how the government are failing. Let's cancel it altogether and go back to focusing on the day to day issues they haven't tackled for 2 years.

I thought he said 'yanni' but it might have been 'laurel'.

Always a choice. I doubt Corbyn will apologise - even with the British lipreading association saying he said "woman"
-
And other experienced lip readers have differed. You pays your money and you follows your own prejudice
-
Yes. I agree

I'd take brown over either of the current leaders. Was the last leader to have sway on the world stage
-
Speaking as a pension trustee I can tell you Brown was the worst of all chancellors! And I was labour sponsored.

at which point he held his head in his hands. What a moment. So much more fun that this. No counter-factual Corbyn ultras selectively lipreading

He made a huge mistake by apologising. Much like you Julia, she was a bigoted woman.
