you do need a visa for Thailand. The fact that you’ve forgotten that you did and that that extra 5 or 10 minutes it took you to fill a form in & take it to a desk didn’t ruin your trip illustrates your point further

not a visa just a landing card enables 21 days entry for UK citizens... a pre cleared visa is completely differant it would be no big deal to do the same to enter the EU on a visitor basis
