Put these 1,555,045 people in cars and the jam would stretch to the moon. What a great advert for segregated cycle lanes in central London. @willnorman @SadiqKhanpic.twitter.com/M8TnHiAg4c

where would they be? bare back on unicorns? if your going to make a comment try adding value rather than just being a waste of electrons. I suspect they would find alternatives that deprive them of keeping fit and adding pollution. some might even be unemployed - only way to work

They’d be in buses or trains, clogging up public transport. Cyclists are experts at route disruption. x

On the contrary, bicycles take up 15% the road space of an average car, so help to significantly reduce congestion

Next time you go for a drive and are part of a traffic jam, time how much of that time is behind a car and how much is behind a cyclist.

I doubt it’s true. Do you always get to junctions without a car in front? Always get to pull straight out without waiting? Never wait for a car turning across traffic? Never wait for the car in front to pull away? Never have to wait to go around a parked vehicle?

Just Jeremy ever think of the millions of people unable to transport themselves via bicycle every time he acts like it's a solution for everything?

A common argument but it's just a straw man. No one ever claimed it's a solution to everything but it could make a big difference

Yes, very common straw man. Of course not *every* journey can be made by bike. But 50% of all car journeys are <3 miles. Many of them could easily be switched to bike, with benefits for all road users - less congestion, pollution, road wear, obesity...

Yesterday I had the option to either drive or cycle from Wandsworth to Bow and back (public transport wasn't an option). It was a lovely morning and I remembered how pleasant the CS3 route is. I cycled 40km that I would otherwise have driven. I have the GPX file to back it up.

i’m #freelance ( so have no fixed hours nor routes) and work "unsociable" hours, like many do, ( I got home in early hours of this morning), if i hadn’t cycled i’d have used my car.
