I appreciate the head’s up. I’m just over halfway through Hanukkah here. ;)

Be still my beating heart! Do I detect a socialist tweet from JHB? You actually care, have empathy for others who suffer? I won't hold my breath.....but I am in agreement. I never thought I'd find myself saying that.

Disagree. Food Banks are just good people helping their neighbours. Better that than sending the price of a tin of beans through the tax/benefits machinery of central govt. Keep it local and be kind.
-
I think it's the 'celebrating' of the opening of a food bank that is a little questionable
-
Its not a little questionable its morally reprehensible. The kindly folk volunteering at food banks that dont need to exist could be volunteering elsewhere. And these Tories are tweeting from a script too.

*Wealthy 1st world countries shouldn't have any food banks at all.

At least Tories made it easier than Labour to access food banks
-
Didn't need food banks under Labour ya tool
-
Wrong. It was just made difficult. (PS, plenty of need in Labour's time. See Liam Byrne's note saying that there was no money left)
-
Look at the stats on the rise of Food Bank usage over the last 8 years, it speaks for itself.
-
It's good that people can get free food. Who would deny them? You can only 'increase' something which is available though. Here in France you get vouchers but what you can get is strictly controlled. (You can, however, have fresh foods of your choice)
-
It's not good that people have to rely on Foodbanks in the 6th richest country in the world. And in the vast numbers that are using Foodbanks there is obviously something wrong.
-
Yes. I found that the best way out of poverty was with work (I was a single parent to two boys). It was hard graft and I didn't get anything free. There are so many reasons why people fall on hard times but there are at least more jobs available now to help
-
That is true to an extent, but we are now seeing people working hard, sometimes balancing several jobs who are still experiencing poverty because of rising cost of living and poor pay. Working and still having to use Foodbanks is another disappointing statistic unfortunately.
