That doesn’t sound plausible to me. Perhaps @Chris_Goulden can help?
The JRF definition of what constitutes poverty is a complete load of bo****ks.
Spot on Julia I couldn't say it any clearer... Having grown up in the 50s child benefit was abt two bob a week and we still had ration books Today they get everythg thrown at them .. they dont know what poverty is..
Kids are only living in poverty in this country because their scummy parents are letting them. No other reason. I know parents who earn less that 20k between them but sacrifice the luxuries in life so that their kids have a nice life and do well.
'Relative poverty' doesn't indicate any real hardship. For instance if @jeremycorbyn @johnmcdonnellMP ever in power we'll all be worse off so fewer people will be deemed to be in relative poverty!
Due to mass immigration wages have been low and will stay that way until we correct our borders
I struggle to see how the current definition of poverty is accurate. With all of the benefits available coupled with minimum wage it must be a struggle to have annual in-comings of less that £12 - £15k more if a couple and more if have kids.
Try reading this and you might get a big surprise at just how much net household income those on minimum wage have.https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2017/07/the-tax-trap-why-a-70k-family-isnt-much-wealthier-than-a-minimum-wage-family/ …
It is important to get definitions correct as the word poverty is thrown around like confetti these days which is an injustice to those truly suffering hardship. Using the word poverty for every occasion kills the debate and people just switch off to the acute problems.
I believe single people especially the unemplyed don’t have a lot of spare cash, but families in this country are more than adequately supported through our benefit system, regardless of whether they’re a working family or not.
Seriously can’t understand why people have children when they clearly can’t afford them. One accident is plausible, two and it’s down to the tax payer to fund. Take responsibility people.
Report on news last night about a woman HAVING to use food banks, filmed walking up to the food bank smoking......funny enough any sympathy I may have had vanished immediately
