No I think your views can be hardened when political discourse is legitimising them. It doesn’t mean she suddenly woke up and decided to be problematic. But you know that — you’re just being deliberately obtuse.
-
I accept your first point. There have always been nasty racists and nothing in the Brexit campaign or the tabloid coverage encourages people to hate ethnic minorities or to attack them. That’s YOUR interpretation and it’s wrong.
-
So the significant increase in hate crime and hate incidents was just a coincidence? Research tells us that people who *appear to be immigrants* always loose out when anit-immigration rhetoric is ramped up because people often conflate the two. We’ve seen it time and time again.
-
The increase was in REPORTS of hate crime - which were encouraged at the time - and the definition of a hate crime is ludicrously subjective. Those crimes are logged without any proof. Of course there is still racism but there’s no evidence that Brexit or tabloids are to blame.
-
No evidence!? So you think the media has no influence on culture in Britain? People can just say things and there will be no ramifications?
