So it doesn't matter who funds the message at all? I think Arron Banks is currently finding out that isn't always true.

That is just naive, would you want a tobacco-industry funded lobbying group not disclosing their funding but giving the gov't advice on healthcare? This is the same as that.

Take the following example. You make a judgement on the message based on the messenger. Similarly how can you judge the messenger if you don't know who the paymasters are?https://twitter.com/JuliaHB1/status/723566627271368704 …

It matters because the motivation behind the message matters. Are we telling you this because it is in your best interests? Or are we telling you because it is in the best interests of those funding us and against yours?

Some people can be honestly wrong. Some people are cynically manipulating people to get a result that is advantageous to them or their sponsors. Also I think the TPA is registered as an educational charity(?) - charities have to meet certain transparency commitments.

The subjective measure of what is or isn't worthwhile is not a reason to pretend that who funds an organisation with such intimate links to the cabinet & state media organisations shouldn't be entirely open. They're lobbyists, they represent the interests of neocon US billionaires

What matters is that funding is transparent, regardless of where it comes from. I thought Brexit was about taking back control? Information is control, which is why the more we learn, the less attractive Brexit looks!

They folded on all points in the case taken by
@shahmiruk Why? To defend who funds their lobbying. I find it remarkable that you don’t see the public interest in knowing who is paying to get access to govt. ministers. Or should representation be contained in a brown envelope? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

No. It matters *who is paying* for *what information* to be passed to the public, and particularly to politicians. It's the "what topics get pushed by whom" that counts.

That depends what you consider 'worthwhile' and who they're saying it on behalf of. The TPA certainly doesn't represent ordinary taxpayers, for instance.
