But you can hardly walk a street in the UK that does not offer pizza/kebab/burger etc. It could be (drum roll) that consumers just are not eating healthily enough to keep farmers afloat. Or maybe (shock horror) some farms are badly run businesses

It’s the British consumer.. put £50 on the price of a TV and they still buy it, put 5p on a pound of spuds and they buy pasta instead.

Me and my friends always used to work in the fields in our school holidays. A shilling a bag for carrots. I could pick 40 bags in a day-£2.00. Gave me the money to buy material to make a dress for the weekend. Yep, I’m really old!

Because the migrants live in squalor with dozens of them living in one house that can afford to live on fruit pickets wages. A man trying to provide for his family can't.

Many of them will be “living in squalor” because it’s still preferable to the situation at home. Most will be sending money to support their own families. Don’t be so quick to dehumanise our fellow human beings.

I don't see it as 'dehumanizing' to acknowledge that migrant workers living in shared accommodation and sending money home to their families will work for lower wages. The difference in living costs between countries is a fact.

Migrant workers can afford to work for disproportionately low wages. By living cheap here they are doing their best to take good money home to their families. But British workers need to earn enough to support their families HERE in Britain. They cannot compete.

And what people seem to assume is that these migrant workers are the same ones all the time. They're not. Someone will come over here for 6 months, live really cheaply and then go back home (replaced by another). 6 months cheap away from home is doable.
