By the way, Richard Madeley is one of the nicest, kindest and most professional people I’ve met in the TV world. If even he can fall foul of the PC police, no one is safe.

Political correctness has weakened everyone, not empowered them. Gone are the days when we were raised to have backbone and thick skin.

I don’t think he should be sacked but it was a ridiculous question that would never have been asked if he’d done some research.

It's a perfectly legitimate question, that gives some insight to those of us who know little or nothing about autism. How do expect people to learn???

Agreed. I appeared on his show once about 15 years ago. He asks lots of questions before it goes live and I'm sure he went over what he was going to ask. I get the feeling he was asking a question typical of a viewer who might not know WTH autism is.

It’s not about being PC, it’s about having a command of a subject. A well paid TV presenter and author should surely have a reasonable degree of knowledge or at least done his homework.

In this world there are loads of people who have very little understanding of many subjects, it is the job of the interviewer to ask the questions these people would like to know the answer too, even if he knows the true answer, that is his job, and he does it very well

He can’t be that professional if he’s asked the question, “Have you always been autistic?”

Autism is a lifelong condition you are born with it & will die with it - I think Richard Madeley could learn more about it but maybe he was encouraging explaining autism. It was good publicity for #autism. He certainly shouldn’t be axed. #GMB
