The editor of Waitrose Food resigned after making a joke about “killing vegans”. Has Britain lost its sense of humour?

I would save the vegan. They wouldn’t be as heavy.
But what if it was 2 Vegans? You'd hit them both and reverse to make sure they're dead.
Julia - in other words, you complete beg the question. You start with the *assumption* that humans should have rights, and no other being should. That's identical to racists who argued that skin color made a moral difference. What traits are arbitrary, which aren't - and why?
Who - so, your justification is strictly emotional? IE: as long as you "believe" XYZ to be true, that's all that's needed? Just remember, there was a time in history when it was culturally fine to kill humans of "different races." Quite acceptable - but was it "right"?
On the contrary. They'd be glad I wasn't espousing that "emotion and tradition is the only standard that counts." :)
And... that means your personal answer is that you do believe emotion and tradition is the only yardstick that matters when discussing morality. OK, at least I know you'd have been fine with slavery, murder, etc... as long as everyone around you said so.
Old people hater!!! I'm staying indoors when you're driving, sounds like Death Race 2000
Tbf I'd probably always save the woman, but hey call me a sexist idiot I don't care, the point is invalid when talking about animals. How many bugs have I killed by driving on the motorway, answer is hell of alot!
Gary - again, you're begging the question. In other words, you're starting from the concept that "of course sentient non-human animals don't have rights." Can you philosophically and epistemologically argue that in a way that isn't subjective and arbitrary.
Rights come with responsibilities. Animals do not understand the nature of that concept. Would you imprison a cat for killing a mouse? Would you stop a woman having an abortion if she decided to take that responsibility on?
