The editor of Waitrose Food resigned after making a joke about “killing vegans”. Has Britain lost its sense of humour? @JuliaHB1 | http://talkradio.co.uk/live pic.twitter.com/JrK2RdaIP1

I'm the sort of vegan who doesn't preach - because it's often counter-productive. BUT imagine being around in the days of slavery. Who's "better"? The person who disagrees privately but doesn't object when a friend whips their slave at a party? Or one who raises their voice?

Lucky - that's the exact question to ask. Are some beings more "worthy" of rights than others? Black vs. white? Male vs. female? Is it "better" to kill a female than a man, because he's (by some ideologies) "superior?" That's the heart of the issue.

Ok, a car is about to hit a dog and a child in the street - but you can only save one of them. Which do you save? If you hesitate for even a second about saving the child then you need to get help. Of course human beings matter more than other animals.

Julia - why? Let's say a car is about to hit a woman or a man. Or: people of two different ethnicities. Who do you choose first? Same issue. The fundamental question is: what's the basis of any being having rights? Everyone's got to mull that, not simply go with prejudice.

No. Choosing between a man and a woman or people of different races (I’d save the youngest one in both cases) is NOT the same as choosing between a human being and a dog. You are certifiably insane.

But what if it was 2 Vegans? You'd hit them both and reverse to make sure they're dead.

Julia, what if that child you grew up to be Hitler, and the dog you killed was Lassie? Something to chew on, in absence of a pork sausage..

Some questions. I mean... if it’s about to hit both then surely they’re in close enough proximity for you to be able to grab the child AND boot the dog up the arse? And also, how come you get airtime when you offer little more than whattaboutery and poorly judged rabble rousing?

This isn't an 'either or' situation though, is it? It's not about saving either a child or an animal. It's about either unnecessarily killing an animal for dinner, or not doing so. Not sure why your wild imagination brings a child into the mix.

Your contribution is completely off the point. This isnt about whether a person is more valuable than an animal. This is about whether Sitwell has been treated unfairly. Answer : He hasnt.

I'd save the dog, aside from the fact it would probably be more grateful, look at the complete F.up the human race has made of the world.Animals would be better off if Humans had never evolved into whatever it is we are now.
