LISTEN UP, SENSIBLE PEOPLE. Please join me in explaining to @waitrose why William Sitwell, editor of their store magazine, should NOT lose his job over a stupid joke about killing vegans. This isn’t about Sitwell or vegans, this is about our right to free speech. Use yours now!pic.twitter.com/WveIEsOgW1

And don’t be fobbed off by @Waitrose claim to have nothing to do with the editor’s decision to “resign”. Tell the store why they’re wrong to give into the perpetually offended and why they should have a backbone.

The weird thing is that the Left do not seem to realise that this kind of censorship that they now champion, does not end with what they want. It will eat itself in the end, including them.

This emanated from a private email ....someone has received a moment of glory here. Unfortunately, it was neither Sitwell nor Waitrose. A company who supports their contributors rather than complainers would receive more respect ....and custom!

But it wasn’t a private email. It was sent from a business email. It’s gross misconduct. And @waitrose rightly decided he wasn’t the correct ambassador for their brand.

Do you consider him suggesting, in a business email, where he’s working for a food company, to kill vegans, one by one a joke? What kind of weirdo says that? It’s gross misconduct and a customer asst. on the shop floor would have been rightly sacked for saying the same thing.

When you work in marketing, your only job really is to make your clients look good and, at all costs, protect their brand. He did the opposite, was vile to a freelancer and disrespectful to many of his client’s customers. That’s gross misconduct, not a giggle.

Waitrose, why is that you respond in this way ? Is your decision based essentially on profit margins, ie, you don't want lose vegan customers or/and desire to avoid vegan boycott pickets outside your stores ? But would such happen? Do the right thing; reinstate your mag editor.

'The perpetually offended' ARE Waitrose's customer base, they'd be sunk without them. If you were to try and trace the liberal elite who are ruining this country you'd need do no more than park yourself by the coffee station, one by one, haters of true democracy would pass by.

With the most vegans per-capita, Tel Aviv is the #vegan capital of the world. #Vegans in Israel are blessed with local gems that are vegan by design, but beyond those there are unique dishes that will make even carnivores drool. #WorldVeganDay🇮🇱🌍 pic.twitter.com/riRzznJiVk

@waitrose It will be difficult to continue my custom at your wonderful store, as I’m extremely disappointed in the way you’ve recently ruined a good mans career in favour of a ridiculous virtue gesture. Any normal sensible person recognises humour, so please reinstate Mr Sitwell.

An employer gets to decide about disrepute and making a poor taste joke about vegan murder to a stranger but potential supplier just after a vegan product line launch is pretty silly.

The comment was in an email to a journalist, not a stranger or a potential supplier, but someone he thought he was on terms with because of their relationship. He clearly lacked experience in the thought process of vegans. After all - vegan jokes are all the rage at the moment.

I don't think they knew each other, she was apparently just pitching a story to an editor. It's one of those things, banter of a particular type may be ok between pals or in a specific industry but if it gets out it will embarrass the employer

According to the article, he sent her an email. He ran the media section and she was a journalist. It seems more likely that they were known to each other, and had each other's email addresses.
