This is getting absurd now. Sitwell made a joke. A JOKE. A FUCKING JOKE. If we can’t laugh at vegans, who the hell ARE we allowed to laugh at? We have GOT to stop these ridiculous and sinister witch hunts by the offendotrons with nothing better to do.https://twitter.com/pressgazette/status/1057595460603514881 …

This was a professional situation, since when has professionalism got out of the window for humour, and to be honest if you need to explain it is a joke then it is not very funny.

You don’t need to explain the joke to anyone with a sense of humour.

I know, how dare someone face consequences in the job for making an inappropriate joke. Also can we note, HE stepped down, he wasn't fired or disciplined. However even if he were that is fairly normal given his position and the type of joke he made.

@VeryAngryHobbit seems not to appreciate that 'stepping down' in such circs is almost certainly the result of a 'go of your own accord before we make you' convo - in other words he was fired.

Yes, it also indicates that he knows he has massively cocked up. So he was fired and he knows that he was going to be fired for a good reason.

Don't be ridiculous. 3.5 million vegans do not all shop in Waitrose. (They can't afford to, many of them are on benefits!). Oh, no, I made an inapropriate joke! I must 'step down'.

In all fairness, you must have a good sense of humour because your perspectives on most things are entirely laughable. 👍🏻

It's really not frightening. It might be for JHB though I doubt it. Life will go on. Mr Sitwell will get another job. He's a Sitwell, they're known for writing. Tonight's Halloween. That's frightening. Have you seen how much Waitrose charge for pumpkins?
