Exactly! It’s not as if Waitrose has any vegan customers or anything.

Maybe Waitrose?
-
That would be the same Waitrose who launched a whole new vegan food line earlier in October. Mocking your own customers while trying to get more money from them is a really dumb move. That’s not political correctness. It’s just the Ratner effect kicking in.

Yes, the same. And if their magazine head made some hilarious jokes about carnies being murderers, and needing to get sent to their slaughterhouses, they'd probably have to "resign" to protect the brand. That's how it works.

I’m not sure Waitrose would want to bet their profits on that hypothesis.

So you think it's acceptable to laugh at somebody because of what may or may not be a medically prescribed dietary requirement? And even if someone's veganism is by choice instead of due to medical needs, you're still advocating ridiculing people for their lifesty;le choices.
-
Also it doesn't count as a joke when sent in professional capacity in response to another professional.
-
Im a professional and joke with fellow professionals all the time. He’s not a robot.
-
I am glad I don't have to deal with you if you think it was an acceptable response. If I responded to a query at dayjob that way I would expect to be sacked.
-
Where are you working?? The Ministry of Grim?
-
Just been appointed director of the Anti-Fun Department.

This was a professional situation, since when has professionalism got out of the window for humour, and to be honest if you need to explain it is a joke then it is not very funny.
-
You don’t need to explain the joke to anyone with a sense of humour.
-
I know, how dare someone face consequences in the job for making an inappropriate joke. Also can we note, HE stepped down, he wasn't fired or disciplined. However even if he were that is fairly normal given his position and the type of joke he made.
-
@VeryAngryHobbit seems not to appreciate that 'stepping down' in such circs is almost certainly the result of a 'go of your own accord before we make you' convo - in other words he was fired. -
Yes, it also indicates that he knows he has massively cocked up. So he was fired and he knows that he was going to be fired for a good reason.
-
Massively cocked up by making a joke about vegans? What a precious sissy generation this is
-
Or... Corporate entities want to remain professional and word getting out that someone responds in such a manner may harm their bottom line.
-
Damn yeah!... imagine if both of the UK’s vegan’s stopped shopping at Waitrose... that would really hammer their bottom line...
