Beer, cider and spirits duty frozen, but the duty on wine goes up. Why are taxes going up on the preferred alcoholic beverage of women, but not men? #SexistPhil

Why do you say wine is the preferred alcoholic beverage of women, but not men? Isn't that a bit sexist? 😉

My wife prefers whisky and her sister eschews wine for vodka. I, on the other hand prefer wine. You were saying?

It will be related to where the products are made don’t you think. Our home based wine industry is still a relatively small one,our whisky, beer and cider industries are substantially larger.

Beer cider and spirits are British whilst wine is more European. I'm surprised in you Julia

Apart from all of those that come from America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina... shall I continue? A lot of it is nicer than the European stuff anyway.

I'm aware of that dear boy. But @JuliaHB1 should be supporting the UK by drinking fine ale, whiskey, gin and cider. The only wine that should pass her lips is Buckfast Tonic wine (Popular in Scotland). It's about taking back control.

I am actually a girl but not to worry. Agree, we should all be support English/British fare more; there are some great English wines available on the market, albeit it at a high price. Maybe when we exit the EU we can support our own farmers/winemakers better and make it cheaper

It’s ok, I am not one of the ‘offended brigade’. I have to admit I am one of Julia’s followers and agree with her especially with regards to Brexit. I believe that we are better off out of the EU.

I don't think it's a great idea, but we are where we are. I sincerely hope you're right. But whatever happens life will go on. It'd be a dull world if we all agreed about everything

Not so sure that it’s only ladies that drink more wine. Would be interesting to see any stats on this. Myself and most of my friends drink more wine than beer.
