Hey, dinner ladies, if you want to be paid the same as bin men, there’s a really easy way to achieve that: go and get a job collecting bins. Simples!https://twitter.com/WEP_UK/status/1054621410440683522 …

Clearly, of course working in a care home or as a bin man cleaning up others
is to be much less valued than sitting at a mic, talking it -
When did I suggest that what I do for a living is of higher value than a care worker or any other job? I didn’t. That’s not the point though, is it?
-
I know you didn’t. But the metaphor used was merely to prompt people to question other relative values. The sarcasm just pokes them a bit

I think they should get the same pay as me, as I am on an ok wage. All they have to do is design and manipulate software to be able to crunch big date to give an output of predicative analytics. Simple really. Equal pay for all I say.

-
Yep, sounds about right...!

When was the last time you collected bins? It’s not the back breaking work it used to be-it’s all done with mechanical lifts and wheelie bins. It’s still hard work but so is caring for, washing, medicating and feeding elderly people and those with disabilities and Alzheimer’s etc
-
Yes, but it’s done outside in the dark and the cold and the rain. If it wasn’t hard physical work, more women would do it, wouldn’t they?
-
Well actually many carers who work in the community (not in homes) and who don’t drive, walk from one client call to the other in the dark, the cold, the rain and snow. Sometimes waking 40 minutes just to attend a 15 minute medicine call. Tbh I think you need to read up on this

Well you haven’t looked hard enough...Not everyone is as qualified or able to find other jobs as easily as you are, and some people who are older have had kids to feed so doing the only job they know is their only option. Not everyone is as well off as you clearly are

Said the nasty little bigot who sits on her arse all day.
-
Talking of nasty little bigots, Ian... how are you?
-
Much better now I've got you on my little hook.

I twiddle the knobs on my radio. Can I be paid the same as you for twiddling the knobs in the studio?
-
Thank goodness for that. I didn't want to take a drop in my pay

I reckon it’s an easier ride being a bin man than a care home worker. Only one does any lifting and it ain’t the bin man.
-
Great, so why don’t all the women moaning about their pay as care workers go and get easier, better paid jobs as bin collectors?!
-
We’ve got two women that do the bins in our area.
