I sometimes think the main problem with the dominance of Oxbridge PPE/History in British politics isn't elitism, but the weekly tutorial. We're governed by people who are good in an essay crisis. We need people who got graded on the coursework.

Agree that it's a useful skill, and there's nothing wrong with the degree or those who have it. It's just that at the moment I feel we need more spods in power.

Or people who listen to the expert instead of trying deflect the conversation to their comfort zone?
-
Depends whether "experts" in question actually have any power of prediction.

I assume that's friends doing essay-based subjects? I did an essay-based subject but students studying science, engineering etc were normally in lectures 9-5 every day then plenty of coursework on top.
