Extraordinary. The fire chief in charge of fighting the Grenfell inferno says she wouldn't change the fire brigade’s response - despite the fact that the deadly cladding meant that the standard “Stay Put” policy needlessly cost dozens of lives that night.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45666960# …

In a submission that will support the fire brigade’s position that it was not responsible for the failings of the “stay put” policy, Lane stressed it was “a design condition and … not a fire brigade policy” Taken from a Guardian article. She didn't blame the fire chiefs at all

The FB abandoned the stay put policy some hours after the fire took hold. How could they do that if it wasn’t their policy?
-
It was a building regulation design "policy" of compartmentalisation... nobody in their right mind would expect LFB to predict the scenario that unfolded that night.

The point at which established best practice is visibly costing lives is generally the point where those bound by it, tear up the rulebook. By adapting to the situation, firefighters probably saved lives. It is cynical and opportunistic to suggest they're at fault.

People died because some people with no regard to human life decided to cut costs and fit flammable cladding to the buildings.

Well if there is another inferno (god forbid) we should just chuck you at it to sort it out. Seeing as you are an expert at absolutely everything.

Are you suggesting it was firefighters who closed fire stations, deliberately didn't buy engines with hydraulic platforms that could reach tower blocks or even started the fire itself? Without the resources bad decisions are inevitable. The culprit

Watched the spread of fire on the TV and don’t think superman could have saved anymore lives. Never have I seen a building burn like that from the outside. Let’s just make sure we learn from it a stop penny pinchers from making decisions that affect safety.

Why are you even trying to defend this? The people at fault are the ones who cut corners on safety, and the ones who ignored the concerns of the residents.

And if they'd have tried to evacuate into a narrow smoke filled stairwell- how many would have made it out?

As reported the council went for the cheaper option on the cladding. Why are you directing this towards the fire service. And not at the council or Tory government, who have continually cut funding. How many fire stations did Johnson close?

It’s obviously too complicated for you to understand that response to an incident like this is unprecedented and unpredictable. After 12 years in the fire service I haven’t seen two jobs the same. Stop blaming people who did their best.

There can be as much protocol & guidance as you like. In those situations it becomes best endeavours based on split second decisions under the worst possible pressures and circumstances. It is everything before it that's in place to prevent it that needs analysing
