No one is blaming heroes. I have nothing but admiration and respect for firefighters. The decisions by fire chiefs - both at Grenfell and Manchester Arena - are not and were not “heroic”. Get over yourself and deal with facts. Virtue signalling doesn’t save lives.

Hate to be the one to break it to you Julia, but your tweets aren’t saving any lives either...

People questioning the decisions of those in power, and holding them to account, is how democracy works.

James was questioning the actions of greedy landlords, interested to know why you believe your comments are somehow more genuinely virtuous than Jame’s own virtuosity, which according to you he’s only signalling? Isn’t that kind of like, signalling your own virtue?

Sigh. No one with half a brain doesn’t blame the council or management for the deaths from the cladding. The inquiry is ALSO looking at what could have been done better ON THE NIGHT to save MORE lives. A different FB commander might have made different decision saving more lives.

Unless they knew there was flammable cladding, why would the fire chief say they'd do anything different?

The ‘decision by fire chiefs’ ! What decision by @LFBCommissioner on the night of Grenfell do you object to ? She was there helping to fight the fire and support her firefighters. As firefighters we ask nothing more

People who are admirable people can make bad decisions. The decision is the issue here, not the character of the person who made it. Supporting a bad decision because it was made by a good person allows no opportunity to make a better decision next time.

My expectation is the enquiry will make reccomendations about use of ‘stay put’. To be fair, at the moment we are speculating. In most cases it is the right option. In exceptional cases it may not be. The trouble is that making that call is usually only possible with hindsight.

Agreed. It's like saying that the decisions by senior officers at Hillsborough should be ignored due to the bravery of the policeman on the ground. Grenfell seems to have become a taboo issue in which nobody can be blamed except for 'evil landlords' or 'Tory cuts'.
