I totally agree.....even though we’re not married. I want to, he doesn’t. We’ve been together 30 yrs, joint mortgage, 2 kids.....marriage in all but name?

Insist he marries you! There’s no such as common law marriage so neither of you have any rights if you break up. Good luck! X

I know I know!! I AM working on it....got to make him think it was all his idea in the first place!

The ridiculous rose covered cottage/Hollywood version of happily ever after causes so much pain to those poor unsuspecting fools who suddenly realise that marriage needs a great deal of effort by both parties. We make vows/promises which matter most in the hard times. What a pity

I’ve just suggested divorce to the missus and now I need a safe space. Any suggestions?

I very much agree with you. Marriage is the backbone of society. Children should where possible be brought up with a mother and farther as role models and a sense of family.

Writing for The Sun? You've now reached your absolute peak. Top journalism! While I disagree with your political leanings I'm a bit surprised you stoop so low as to do articles in such a rag that is read by inbreds and idiots

Great article JH-B, 100% agree but then I’ve been lucky enough to be married to my wife Karen for 27yrs. Good times, bad times, whatever life’s thrown at us - couldn’t imagine not being married to her!

well said. Marriage isn’t promised to be a walk in the park, it’s a union and needs give and take on both sides. I know I’m a better person for having my husband by my side.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Anything that is actively promoted using incentives will be attacked as discriminatory. It’s ridiculous, and it’s time for ‘us’ to stop being reactive and defensive. Time to get proactive, angry and to ‘offend’ the perpetually offended. Time to out-whine them.

Divorce was the best thing to come out of marriage.

Hear hear Julia. It’s time we started to stand up for marriage and it’s benefits.

Having been through the miserable process of divorce I do feel that saying “we will be together forever come what may” reduces the incentive to work on the relationship, which can lead to breakdown. But most of all it’s for people to choose their lifestyle, not the state, IMO.

Having been happily married for 40 years I only had one piece of advice for my son. Never seek or look for Love, for it will by nature find you. For this is a true Love that will endure the many hurdles and obstacles life’s path has for you both.

I agree with what you have written. In two days time I will celebrate 29 years of marriage (with my wife of course!). I can't imagine life without her.. However, she does not do Twitter... So she will probably never read this!
