Ok, let’s take a look at those numbers, Jezza. £5k spent over, say, 42 years is £119 a year. That’s £10 for each period. 32 Superdrug tampons cost £1.89. So these women are using 160+ tampons a period. So that’s 40 TAMPONS A DAY. Okaaaay. Yep, seems legit. #PeriodPoverty #Mathshttps://twitter.com/jeremycorbyn/status/1043460281706446848 …

We must end period poverty. On average, women spend around £5,000 on sanitary products in their lives. A huge amount which many simply can't afford. Labour will provide free sanitary products for secondary schools, food banks and homeless shelters. #LabWomen2018 #Lab18 pic.twitter.com/KEBW4iJxzs

Or at the none luxury end 20 tampons a month is £1 a month so £12 a year or £480 over 40 years. I wonder how much teenage spend monthly on their mobile bill ? Expect more a month than tampon cost. Should we now give them free phones as well?pic.twitter.com/E5sSlRE0i9

One pack of 24 would only last me two of the 8-10 days and wouldn’t include pads had to wear as well. Don’t suppose you use any!

No, it also includes women who only bleed for a day or two & barely use any tampons. The vast majority of women don’t spend anything like £5l on sanitary products in their lifetimes. BTW, what did your GP do about your bleeding? Plenty of solutions.

Many GP’s aren’t specialists in gynae issues Julia. They always recommend the pill first which is dangerous for many women, and issues like endometriosis takes on average 7 years to diagnose, and can cause heavy bleeding. Also, there are people who have periods twice a month.

I bleed exactly 2.5 days and I use plenty tampons. I don't really want thrush so even if one bleeds lightly it's a hygiene issue. And yes we light bleeders also use pads. It's about more than blood it's about cleanliness

This is a very good point! Most women want to/need to change tampons every few hours to keep clean, it’s a simple act of hygiene and even self care for some. Periods aren’t a luxury, so sanitary products shouldn’t be either.

That's not how averages work. You've deliberately chosen the cheapest option there. If you include the women who aren't buying cheap Superdrug tampons but, say, Tampax Pearl (£3.15 for 18) the cost goes up. More still if you include subsidiary costs like pain relief medication

In any case, whether it's £5k or £2k isn't the point, is it? Whatever it is, it's a lot of money that some people can't afford.

So tell steptoe to stop promising, wasting and conning the gullible about how he will deliver without saying how he would pay back the bonds that he would have to borrow. Also, ask why labour is continuing to fall in the latest polls?

I'm not one for soy milk or socialism, really Stew. Not exactly twisting words either am I? The money could be easily subsided and paid for through tax. Considering they're items regularly used by 50% of the population, it only seems fair.

Yeah, Stew. That's how tax works. You get a job, you contribute and the everyone benefits. The money would come from us. Not everyone can afford that, that's the point. We pay for many other hygiene/health products with tax, some unnecessary. These are necessities.

Because we pay for people's insulin, surgeries and medication. It's a health item, it's a need, not a want. That's such a weak argument. 'If I help give women access to free, quality, hygiene products then eventually I'll be paying for luxury trips to the moon' 😥😥😥
