No discipline in the homes, no aspiration in school, no fear of getting caught, no fear of being jailed. Next?https://twitter.com/MayorofLondon/status/1042334233019265024 …

Your well-known, trite talking points do not explain the recent surge in violent crime, which suggests the actual causes are more complex than you pretend. While you're on the sidelines scoffing serious people are putting in the real work of trying to tackle this problem,
-
The causes aren’t complex - fatherless boys allowed to reject free education, police who are not allowed to police (Khan is responsible for the reduction in S&S), weak sentencing, and gang culture unheard of until recently - it’s all fixable, but you wouldn’t like the fix.
-
More kids are being stabbed in the street where I live in Camberwell than in the Cotswolds, so I'm all ears if you've got the answer there. It's no use saying it's fixable without coming out and telling us what the fix is, which is all I'm seeing here.
-
...while not jailing people for victimless crime eg drugs offences (I’d legalise all drugs in fact). It would not be quick or painless or easy but it would be better than watching a generation of kids act out their gangsta fantasies on London’s streets.
-
Thank you. Just suggesting anything makes you braver than me already. I do like most of those fixes. But as you say, doing it isn't easy or painless, and I disagree on stop and search. I think, on balance, as it's been done in London, the pain it causes outweighs the benefits.
-
I believe the racism talk around stop-search is confected by criminals who want their mules, dealers and enforcers to go unimpeded, but either way the stats are clear that its reduction coincided with an increase in murder. Same happened in Chicago around 2014/15 too.
-
We could allow the police powers to stop and search everyone at all times, if crime was the only thing at stake. If it can be enforced in a way that doesn't cause disproportionate harm, which you're entitled to believe, then I'm all for it, but I'm yet to be convinced it can.
-
If I lived in an area teeming with kids with knives I wouldn’t - in the absence of a better way - necessarily object. What is the harm caused by stopping people and saying, ‘Do you mind if I check you’re not carrying a knife? Only there have been a lot of stabbings recently’?

Well no discipline in the home...a bit moot..tho no fathers contributes mightily in those communities where knife and drugs are a serious problem..”let’s get in with it”...let’s keep it simple, neuter the females?...LOL..bet there’s plenty on the right would love that...LOL...

I'd love to hear
@JuliaHB1's simple solution to the simple problem of no discipline in homes, because everything I can think of has its own problems.
