How about not charging student midwives £50k to do a 3-year degree? It's not just about favouring British workers... they're not available in the first place!

It’s the same for nurses ... numbers looking to train down 50% since govt cancelled their bursaries. The reason
@JuliaHB1 s suggestion won’t work is that we have a demographic gap in this country and need migrants to fill it. We also have a skills gap that even if there .. -
.. were the numbers available to train it takes time to train them . An increasing number of NHS trusts are already at crisis levels they saw last winter, so we need migrant staff which the home office are actively discouraging, let alone the effect on Brexit of EU migrants !
-
I think we really need to think this through first. Radically altering the demographic composition of your society is not exactly wise. It's not workable, either:pic.twitter.com/r00ii8eZkC

What should it do when it runs out of British workers? Just give up on economic growth? Or (as it does) recruit immigrants who contribute more to economic growth than they cost in services? It's a no brainer.
-
recruit immigrants on a points based system meeting the economic needs of our country.
-
Bureaucratic and inefficient. Simpler to require those that have not found a job within a set time to return to their country of origin - as is possible under current rules, but which Home Sec
@theresa_may failed to implement. -
It’s not possible under the current rules which is one of the huge problems. The rules say that anyone not contributing ie working, paying their way after 3 months can be sent home. BUT 3 months is the time period after which job seekers allowance can be claimed.
-
Job seekers allowances isn't working and EU immigrants attempting to collect it after 3 months could be sent back. Go to Belgium and try it.
-
I wasn’t aware that Belgium has job seekers allowance. As far as I’m aware, in other EU countries if you haven’t got a job after 3 months you have to leave
-
Other countries don’t have the same benefits as us
-
Exactly. Housing benefit (free homes) are given to those who travel here without jobs plus cash. We are far too generous. Problem is we are now so left wing throwing non contributors out of their free homes, would lead to activists organising riots.

Teachers... knackered and leaving the profession in droves. Electricians, bricklayers and plumbers all have skills taught in FE colleges and guess what's been happening there??? Nice tweet... but also stupidhttps://feweek.co.uk/2018/09/17/ifs-report-further-education-has-been-the-biggest-loser-in-cuts-to-government-funding/ …

Where are all these teachers going ? Stop talking such nonsense. They simply retire on fantastic pension & go on the supply list.

Do British workers now need visas post-brexit, to be employed in Britain? What's your point?
-
Do try to keep up. Govt policy for years has been to limit expensive training of Brits to work in NHS etc, instead importing foreign workers who are already trained. We’ve plenty of Brits who could do that work. We should prioritise them. Is that simple enough for you to grasp?
-
Ok for the tax rises to pay for the training? Doctors don't come cheap.
