The politics aside, there is widespread feeling amongst the gay community that Whitehall is a reverberating knobhead. In fact I think as far as the gays go, they couldn’t have made a less popular choice. In unrelated news he touched my bum once in a club, the beast!

Its just a bit shit that the first major gay disney character.... Isn't played by someone who is gay. Its depressing.

No it isn’t. Child soldiers in the Congo are depressing, familial rape is depressing. This is ultimately irrelevant.

I suppose. Its just a shame as far as milestones go that the first gay character wasnt gay. Its not really something you could do with other character traits I suppose

What I find depressing is that the gay community seem to be defining the character ONLY by his sexuality. It's a poor way of pigeonholing people and let's face it, how many gay actors have played straight parts over the years. It really doesn't matter who plays the role.

To all those hysterical people OUTRAGED over Jack Whitehall being given the role of playing a gay man in a new Disney film: Acting is the art or occupation of performing fictional roles in plays, films or television.

It gets worse. In 2001, Mike Myers played the part of Shrek, despite being neither a computer animated ogre or even Scottish.

I find it very odd. The same people telling me Idris Elba should be James bond because it doesn't matter that bond isn't are now saying that Jack Whitehall can't play a gay man cause he isn't a gay man. Its very confusing being liberal

I wouldn’t find a white guy playing a black guy on film right, and I don’t find this right. There aren’t many openly gay actors and to not even employ them is silly

Just wait until they remake "The elephant man" and try to cast an appropriate lead.
