If supposedly sensible Conservative MPs, activists and commentators seriously believe it is acceptable for their senior politicians to describe BAME women as "letter boxes" and "bank robbers" then it's over. It really is all over.

Boris didn’t describe BAME women. He described the APPEARANCE of Muslim women in burkhas as looking like a letterbox or bank robber. Very different. It was about the garment, not the women. And not all Muslims are BAME.

I see. So you're arguing it's OK for a man to tell a woman what she should and shouldn't wear.

No, I’m arguing that it’s ok for a society to agree on what is and isn’t acceptable in the public sphere and to place limits on ALL people to not cover their faces in public.

Right. So we should also ban crash-helmets. And balaclavas. And those masks you see in novelty shops. And scarves wrapped around the face. Presumably we should also start a debate on sunglasses.

Yes, we should ban face coverings in public that don’t serve a purpose, eg protection, health reasons, the cold etc. Your other points are just silly.

Excellent. And how do we, as a society, collectively agree on what non-essential clothing items should be banned. Referendum? Primary-legislation? Some sort of regulatory authority - OFBURKA? Personally, I’d like to see Ugg boots on the list.

Dehumanising people from a certain faith. Now where have we seen that happen before?

It’s the burkha and niqab that dehumanises women, not criticism of those garments.

To all those self righteous holier than thou on their moral high horse brigade may I ask what would happen if a women wore a bikini in Saudi Arabia, Iran or any other strict muslim nation? Why is it that the west must respect multiculturalism yet certain nations are exempt?

It's called appeasement. Something we should stop whenever possible. Refer your question to your local MP and see what the reply will be. I won't be surprised by the response you will get.

A burka is worn by a Muslim woman, why seek to ban a costume worn by Muslims, would you seek to ban Sheitel wig worn by Orthodox Jewish married women? Of course you wouldn’t. Also if this was a comment made by the left you would be up in arms.
