The liberal outrage at this sentiment is laughable. Boris is right. There is NOTHING liberal or feminist or empowering or *anything* good about women wearing the burkha or niqab. In any circumstance. In any country or any culture. Ever.https://twitter.com/jessbrammar/status/1026413210302341120 …

There’s a feminist argument against wearing Burkha. But that’s not the one Boris was making. He was mocking a religious practice and doing so by reference to these women’s appearances. Also evidence in other European countries suggests banning Burkha etc has greater oppressive1/
-
No, mocking a medieval practice (that has little to do with Islam) is not the same as mocking Muslim women. There are a number of arguments against the burkha, only one of which is the feminist one. Integration and respect for British/western values is also a key argument.
-
And by how much do you think
@BorisJohnson advanced the cause of integration? People tend to dig in when they’re sneered at in this way. -
Integration??? are you having a laugh?. Do you walk around with your eyes and ears covered?. You really do need to get out more and see what's going on.

You certainly loved his resignation speech.

Hmm, but you seemed to like his speech in the HoC he other day. Anyway, "attacking Islam" is very much the wrong way to go about this. I cannot believe you said that. In Denmark Birkhas are outlawed in public spaces together with Balaclavas on fairly sensible grounds.

But how many of these women does he or you imagine have a choice about wearing such a garment? I don't like them one bit, but like you, I've grown old in a liberal society where I choose what I wear.
-
Yes but there are limits. Eg I support a ban on balaclavas in public spaces. One is not allowed full nudity either. Wearing stuff to mask your identity is a security threat. I think there is a case to ban birkhas but very explicitly NOT on the basis of 'we don't like Islam'.

Then why on earth are you on here defending his islamophobic bullshit? The only possible conclusion is that it’s the islamophobia that appeals to you.
