Another airport. Another delayed flight. Why do airlines even bother having timetables anymore? Why not just have a free-for-all and we all turn up at a time of our choosing on the offchance there’s a flight to our preferred destination in the next 12 hours?

It’s not a simple operation. Numerous causes of delay- security issues, late arrival of inbound aircraft, weather, industrial action, airspace capacity, fuelling, maintenance to name a few. Increasing number of planes in same size of airspace available.

Well Julia, anybody doing as much foreign travel as you do is bound to experience their fair share of frustration. I suggest that you take more U.K. holidays!

..or come to Japan, and experience the amazing on time performance of planes and trains. Truly amazing even in 40c weather.

Luckily the EU directive on flight delay compensation has your back. And after March it won't matter as planes won't be flying anyway.
