The EU can only make so called ‘secondary laws’. The most ‘intrusive’ ones are Regulations. Yet nobody can name a regulation that has negatively impacted them personally. The EU websites are wonderfully informative. You should give them a try.

They cannot. However, the EC only makes laws in agreement with what was discussed in the council of ministers. So the guidelines come from the UK and the law comes from a body with UK officials and get voted by a body of elected representatives. They also do a weekly breefing.
