How do I vote out Theresa May or any other minister? How do I vote out the House of Lords? How I vote out the monarchy? At least Junker has ratification by actual elected MEPs unlike the above.

Do you need to a read a book on the British Parliament?
-
British not UK Parliament? Didn’t realise you were already moving to a position where Northern Ireland is an acceptable sacrifice in the name of Brexit

Apparently it is so democratic but I can't get rid of the leader, the cabinet nor substantially change any of the basic rules as they are encoded as treaties - but beyond that it is just like parliamentary democracy in every way - I mean if you love the EU go for it but be honest
-
How do you ‘get rid of the leader’ in the UK? Or, how do you elect head of state in the UK?
-
The UK has a constitutional monarchy with the Queen having largely symbolic powers - the legislator and executive is accountable via a direct election every 5 years under the FTPA unless a vote of no confidence or majority in the commons - these are the facts
-
I understand your point. However, it is always interesting to me when royalists complain about non-elected people holding high offices.
-
That is quite easy - if you wanted to have a referendum in the UK and move to a republic you could do that - if you wanted to change the treaties in the EU or remove Juncker its next to impossible - one is a much smaller jump on democratic control than the other
-
EU treaties can be amended too, but it requires other member states to agree. Consensus and compromise are needed for that. Both used to be principles of British politics, but it seems that is no longer the case.
-
So one requires me to get a majority or at least apply pressure in my country and the other requires me to do the same across 27 other countries - so we can state clearly that one has a much closer democracy to the people than the other

It's even worse than that Julia. The EU is working to GUARANTEE that we are left worse off than the rest of the EU countries after Brexit, regardless of if and how much we pay them. That's not even a threat, it's the goal they are working towards.

Some Remainers seem to think Proportional Representation makes the EP more democratic - they lost that referendum too...
-
The UK has never had a referendum on PR.
-
But we had one on scrapping FPTP which gave the current system overwhelming support.
-
Well that's also not true. 28% of the electorate voting for one of the two bad options they were offered is a funny idea of "overwhelming support". But our point was that you were wrong when you said we had a referendum on PR.
-
The time for making that argument was in 2010/11. Instead the whole PR movement got behind AV, declaring it to be the only hope and that a No vote would kill chances completely. Nobody seriously believes it's David Owen Wot Won It (except maybe David Owen).
-
And 72% backed the winning side - that looks pretty overwhelming to me.
-
Only if you tactically ignore our previous tweet ;) "28% of the electorate voting for one of the two bad options they were offered is a funny idea of "overwhelming support"."
-
If Yes had scraped a majority of just one thanks to (looks where I am right now) Tower Hamlets then we'd hear no end of triumph from the election system changers. The scale of the outcome was such that even Barry Goldwater had a better defeat.
