      Julia Hartley-Brewer Retweeted British Future

FFS. The England team didn’t “display diversity”. They’re just good football players. No one cares what colour their skin is. This obsession with “identity” and “diversity” is just a different kind of racism.https://twitter.com/britishfuture/status/1019525065912832000 …

Now it’s time for our politicians to do the same,' argues @sunny_hundal https://www.opendemocracy.net/uk/sunny-hundal/england-may-have-lost-but-it-gave-us-sense-of-unity-our-political-leaders-have-faile … #WednesdayWisdom pic.twitter.com/ugZ9zMETPt

You can actually find good and bad displays of diversity in everything. Football, schools, drama groups etc. Just because you choose not to see or celebrate it, doesnt mean it doesnt happen. (Also, youre displaying signs of a bitter twisted racist old hag)

What are you celebrating? Footballers aren’t selected for the England team because of their colour and it has no bearing on their playing ability. Totally irrelevant. If you can’t debate in a civil fashion, don’t bother replying. I don’t debate stupid people.

Isn't the point here that players are not NOT selected because of their skin colour? That seems worth celebrating to me....

What about when the LMA is constantly lobbying because of the lack of diversity due to numbers of black managers in English football. As there’s a strong number of black players are you saying the LMA’s comparative goals don’t matter?

You missing the wood for the trees. The England team were selected on ability regardless of colour and that's a GREAT thing because it's an example of how TO do it in a society that would have systematically disadvantaged those people in almost any other career - so we celebrate.

I guess the celebration is that we are stronger when we put aside our differences, and ignore those who try and divide us.

LOL you don’t debate at all. You got mad because some people appreciate the diversity of a soccer team and asked what difference skin color made, which is the exact point, say, Jackie Robinson made when he couldn’t play baseball due to his skin color. 🙄

No honey pie. Diversity comes in far more flavours than skin colour. The backgrounds of these players - the diverse vantage points - life experiences - philosophies - all play a part to healthy team dynamic. It's not just an ability "to kick a ball".

What we are celebrating, is the evidence that our institutions are giving everyone equal opportunities to succeed. Remember when south Africa produced all white rugby and cricket teams, I bet the likes of you never questioned why that was the case in a majority black country.
