FFS. The England team didn’t “display diversity”. They’re just good football players. No one cares what colour their skin is. This obsession with “identity” and “diversity” is just a different kind of racism.https://twitter.com/britishfuture/status/1019525065912832000 …

Meanwhile in the real world, minority ethnic families in the UK earn up to £9,000 a year less than white families and black UK citizens have lost rights and even been deported as part of a hostile environment immigration policy.

There are many different reasons for that - mostly socio-economic - but certainly one of those is racism. But that stop doesn’t make Sunny’s point relevant.

You just said "no one cares" about skin colour. Delete it.

People don’t care about the skin colour of England’s players. They just see them as players. That alone shows barriers have been broken down and is emphatically a good thing.

"People don’t care about the skin colour of England’s players" Really? So @kickitout aren't needed and are simply wasting their time fighting something which doesn't exist? http://www.kickitout.org/  #CasualRacism

Yes, people don’t care about their skin colour. They care about them as players and as people. Nobody’s saying racism doesn’t need to be tackled but where there’s clear evidence of harmony the last thing we need are demands we look at people differently. Casual racism indeed.

There may well be harmony among the England squad but if you've ever been to a football match people do absolutely care about people's skin colour. Just wait for a non-white player to fuck up & see how quickly people refer to their skin colour, or faith for that matter!

This was specifically about the England team. We KNOW racism exists and needs to be tackled - thanks for the reminder- but where there is clear evidence of harmony, I don’t think a focus on race and national origin, or accusing people you don’t know of casual racism, is helpful.

The England team are a reflection of the diversity of our country & may well be harmonious, but that doesn't translate into 'harmony' in society. White middle-class commentators like Hartley Hare don't see 'skin colour' while reinforcing structural racism in society.

Yes we KNOW that racism exists and needs to be addressed. We’ve established that. Ironically, you’re the only person here judging people by the colour of their skin.

Racism is a present evil. This idea that racism isn't the real problem but we should instead focus our attention on some "diversity agenda" is basically trying to say that the *real* victims of racism are white people. It's appeasement.
