No, it was the Remoaner minority’s refusal to accept Brexit which has poisoned British political life. If everyone had accepted the result of the democratic vote, the country could have united around Brexit. https://twitter.com/helenlewis/status/1012297844840189958 …

Elections are always pretty fraught on all sides but everyone accepts the result and is magnanimous is victory or defeat.

Fair enough Paul but we have a law that states we get a General Election every year. How often do you plan to have an EU referendum. Because of course if we stayed in after a 2nd Referendum we might have to leave after a 3rd or 4th. You might find the EU just kicks us out anyway.

There is no law currently on the statute books that calls for an annual general election. And there was forty years of anti-EU campaigning from the Eurosceptics - from the day we joined to their victory in 2016.

This was not an election, it was an advisory referendum - like an opinion poll. The 52/48 split result, and subsequent loss of May's majority, is not a mandate for hard Brexit.

Julia, have a look at the commentary below this link. Brexiters dizzy with their desire for a fight. Perhaps it's because Dyson is wearing a poppy but it's hard not to think of the early days of the First World War. White feathers. Only problem with that comparison is that elections are re-run every five years. You should have accepted the vote in 1975 to remain. See how silly this is. Do you contemplate what comes out of your mouth ever Julia?

I’m so hurt. You’re very ready to answer other people’s questions but you’re not answering mine which is so simple because - apparently - EVERYONE knows what Leavers voted for. So (one more time) what is ‘the Brexit’ that we should all unite around? Specifics please, not slogans.

It was NOT an election, it was a non binding referendum to collect the opinion of people. The Gov lost it's majority soon after by insisting on turning the result into " the will of the people". They lost it in an election not a referendum! 🤔🙃
