I've been talking with a British car parts manufacturer. They've accepted Brexit, are adapting and even see opportunity in it. Unfortunately, it does nothing positive for the people of Britain. Let me explain why not.

-
They participate in a just-in-time system where tier1 suppliers deliver to the line just in time for the parts to be put on the next car. There's no time to deal with customs delays or paperwork. Currently they supply as tier1 or tier2 across Europe.
-
They are adapting by partnering with other parts companies in Europe. They are providing the tech skills and equipment to build their parts and getting the same back. So now they can be a tier1 to UK-based car assemblers. They lose their EU customers to their partner.
-
The bad news for the UK is that they will no longer be exporting car parts. So our export-earning capacity reduces and this has a bad effect on the exchange rate. When we earn less foreign exchange the price of goods rises, because we buy almost everything we need from abroad.
-
While the car parts manufacturer keeps going, the average British wage will have less purchasing power. As this decoupling of supply chains is playing out across many industries, the cumulative effect on wages will be significant. We all get poorer due to Brexit.
-
Well put, but I’m not sure they are listening...
-
Someone will be. JHB already has her jackboots on ready for camp, but there are many undecided and whose mind can be changed.
-
Come on JHB, let's hear another pithy 'it's the remoaner's fault' comment. Come on, brexit was gonna be a guaranteed success, absolute red, white and blue piece of brilliance until we exercised our right to be unhappy about it. That's what ruined it.

For crying out loud. Even Farage talks more sense. He famously said that 52/48 was not a done deal. Just because you won doesn’t make you right. And blaming the sane because your destructive insanity isn’t working is just proof that it is insanity.
-
And you are miffed now because you can see your horrific dream melting.
-
She’s miffed because she backed the wrong side. Seems to be her default stance.

So, just for clarity, what is it we should be ‘getting behind’?
-
You should back this racehorse..... Ok is it any good? I don’t know. Ok, how many legs does it have? I’m unsure....
-
The horse only lost because you people didn't back it!

That would be totalitarianism, budget Hopkins. What practical steps could anyone outside politics do to make an obvious bad idea a good one? Should I paint my car like a union flag? Should I whistle Rule Britannia incessantly? Tell me Julia?
-
Presumably you need to slam your head against a wall until brexit seems like a good idea. That's what Julia appears to have done.
