This lady is an academic. Her points are, in order: 1. Irrelevant to modern day 2. Wrong, vows are equal 3. Wrong, bridesmaids are a choice 4. Wrong, civil marriages aren’t religious 5. Wrong, nothing sexist about marriage 6. Wrong, only if you’re married to the wrong personhttps://twitter.com/leanderreeves/status/1011922337711747072 …

traditions that sometimes doesn't treat people equally, sexist vows, bridesmaids, religion, more sexism - instead, straight people [if they want to] can now show the world they are a legally bound couple who love each other, without the suffocating nonsense.

Her points are as valid as yours. You're just triggered because you're a reactionary snowflake who can't handle freedom of choice.

I’m not remotely triggered. I’m giving my opinion, not getting upset. I actually have no issue with civil partnerships.

Why do you need to point out that I am an academic? Personally, I think wedding ceremonies can be pretty sexist. I'm all for all people having access to civil partnerships - and since this neither affects me or you - let people do what suits them. Equality is a nice thing.

Got married in a Registry Office, mutual vows, atheists, saved every penny for a deposit on first home ...both worked very hard, 15% mortgage, 25% inflation, 3-day week, Cold War - beautiful loving family... 50 years later😀💕

Perhaps someone can explain what is the difference between a registrar office civil wedding and a registrar office civil partnership? Can't help thinking the couple in question are being rather precious..

All that aside, it makes sense that if one group can have a civil partnership, why can't another? Why not?

Don't recognise the issues with marriage they describe, though. We had a non-religious wedding. You can pick your vows, and pretty much what everyone else says. Bridesmaids aren't mandatory.
