I really despair. Why does *any* parent struggle to say “No” to their child when that is what is in their child’s best interests? When did parents decide it was okay to stop doing any actual parenting?https://twitter.com/jeremy_hunt/status/1011242292299157505 …

I know too well how tough it can be for parents to say no when children see sugary treats all around them. There’s lots we can do to make life easier for parents trying to raise healthy children, here's our plan: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/childhood-obesity-a-plan-for-action-chapter-2 …

Been saying same thing for years. When we were first parents (70s) knew nothing about parenting and had no money but my children were clean and decently fed. We had to say 'no' because we didn't have any money, end of. Lazy parents are the scourge of this country.

I say no to mine all the time. I can't understand why some are struggling with this concept of parenting. I told my children the reason I tell them no is because I don't want them to be spoiled brats and they get that. They're not always happy with it but they get it.

It’s always someone else’s responsibility nowadays - move sweets from checkouts etc; are the kids at the checkouts with their own MasterCard ? It’s not my fault he/she’s got ADHD, single parent etc.

What crap from Jeremy Hunt. Good parents say no. Weak parents say yes because that's easier and end up with obese kids. Target the parents, not the manufacturers.

It's ridiculous if your child is overweight it's the parents responsibility to do something about it,for starters don't buy sweets eat takeaways make sure their kids get plenty of exercise it's not up to a nanny state to do parent jobs. What on earth is going on in this country.

This is the problem in Britain today. People expect the State to run their lives for them - including parenting. It's the State's fault they can't feed their kids, it's the States fault their kids are doing badly at school, it's the States fault they're commiting crimes.

Kids nowadays are lazy. Simple. Unfortunately their parents have made them that way. Handing them an ipad, mobile etc and leaving them to it. Need to get the little chubsters outdoors. You can have sugar treats with the right balance of a bit of exercise
