What happens to high-tech businesses that can't get the skills we need not because we won't let them come, but because the hostile environment puts them off? The skilled have choices.pic.twitter.com/xqQKduhEgA
Growth comes entirely from production. It flows down to service providers and rent-seekers. What happens to the UK economy when our producing enterprises leave, in their own self-interest?pic.twitter.com/HSH7AJbcwp
We have the highest rents in Europe. Do you really think that this is the fault of the EU, rather than the rent-seekers in government that have the perverse incentive to restrict housing supply to force rents up?pic.twitter.com/cuqZsan586
We have the highest property prices in Europe except for Luxembourg, driven by tax benefits for property owners. Do you think this is the fault of the EU rather than our own property-owning MP's?pic.twitter.com/wwqtgmFbVP
We have the highest income disparity in Europe by a very big margin. Do you think this is the fault of the EU rather than our rent-seeking MP's?pic.twitter.com/FP0oRn7mxo
Despite that we have the joint lowest wage growth in Europe. Property price inflation means that investors can make more, less risky money buying property than by investing in job-creating producers and services businesses. Do you think that's the fault of the EU?pic.twitter.com/REWwvYA1uX
We have low and decreasing labour productivity. Low productivity means low wages. The Germans and French could take Friday off and still produce more in a week than the average Brit. Do you think this is due to the EU rather than under-investment in production?pic.twitter.com/DUagF4bZ62
What’s utterly bizarre is that 2 yrs into this project with just 9 mths to go there is still nothing resembling a plan for Brexit. Does that not concern you? In a real world business the project leader would be sacked.
I have 30 yrs experience of complex international project management. If I was 2 yrs in with 9 mths to go and still had no idea what requirements I was going to address, let alone had no detailed plan with scope, costs, benefits, risks then I’d be sacked. Where’s the plan?
But many of you lot have had 20 yrs or more, some (such as MEPs) with eff all else to do, to prepare a detailed plan for Brexit which answered all the issues now being faced. Why didn’t you use it?
Moreover you lot promised “sunlit uplands” after Brexit. Now the best you can come up with is “it won’t be a disaster” or “it won’t be Armageddon”! Pretty sure 17.4m people are expecting something better.
We just have to belieeeeeeeeeve.....
And that argument shows the real problem with the people pushing 'remain'. Why would Brexit affect employment , rights, food and access to medicine?? In fact in many ways it should enable us to improve on most of these issues. We had all these rights (and food!) before 1973 !!
The effect of these costs on manufacturing will be devastating, as will the massive loss in productivity, causing major firms to either fold or leave, leading to lost jobs. This can be prevented by staying in at least the CU, preferably SM too.
This is complete crap, there should be no major changes. We already work with non EU countries on JIT as it is. What costs? Unless the EU are not reasonable, and in that case the cost to EU nations/companie will be higher than to the UK companies as we import far more from them!!
OK name one company and industry outside of the EU that we trade with on JIT basis. I will make it simple. Its not financially and logistically possible. Too many checks, extra tarrifs and paperwork. Just In Time means just that. Impossible to supply manufacturers direct 1/
To the trackside, on an individual basis. Manufacturers waste money by stockholding so it supplied as it is needed. This will not be frictionless if we leave the EU/CU. Sorry councillor, you don't know shit from clay.
we already import a huge ammount of JIT stuff from around the world. Not just the EU and that isn't a problem. It's only a problem if you want to make it one - which the remain side of the argument do on every single occasion. It would affect EU companies too.
I think you're making this up.
He's definitely bullshitting. No response at all. And from a councillor too eh?
