The silliest responses here are asking the classic, “What about sex offenders?” I didn’t stutter: ALL people with criminal records. They went through the criminal legal system already. Making it impossible for them to find a place to live is irrational and inhumane.
I’ve survived sexual assault (and was later coerced into publicly acknowledging that I was sexually assaulted). The man who assaulted me (and others) was hardly held accountable, years afterward. Never faced criminal charges. And still: What good would it do to make him homeless?

They 100 percent do.
How is this possible? I don’t know a single reporting agency that will do such a check for $20 (the maximum amount authorized by law for an application fee).
And reps at those agencies have told me criminal background checks are notoriously inaccurate as not all states subscribe to the same databases. I always tell the LLs I work with that it’s irrelevant.
Can we get a credit score check ban and realtor fee ban too.
I’ve never ran a criminal background check ever for a prospective tenant in over five years. These racist landlords will come up with ANY excuse to deny POC from renting but the first step should be forcing the owners to accept section 8 (and not just in their community)
Are landlords indemnified if they rent to a convicted criminal who then commits a crime against another tenant?
