Gov. Kathy Hochul vetoed a bill requiring judges notify New Yorkers of their right to attend a non-religious, court-ordered treatment programs.
Why? Because then the legislature might mandate judges to inform defendants of other rights.

Our position on this has not changed. We do not need to lift the charter cap. We need to continue to invest in our state's public schools.

The naked attempt to remove the cap on charters in NYC is a nonstarter. The cap has historically served to strike the balance between giving parents so-called “choice” & the constitutional requirement to keep public schools open, and it’s not common sense to upset that balance.

The hearing isn't even over yet. We've been here for over ten hours hearing testimony.
The data does not support any link whatsoever between bail reform and increase in any crime rates.

A public hearing on bail reform led different people to draw different conclusions. So, it comes time to make the changes @GovKathyHochul is seeking, Democrats who oppose them might plausibly point to this hearing and say ‘data is not clear.’ ny1.com/nyc/all-boroug

This chief judge nominee himself, on the record, at the conclusion of the hearing, thanked the committee and said the hearing was fair. It was fair and thorough, and ultimately the nomination was rejected. We can't just create exceptions to Senate rules bc the Post wants us to.

The flyer looked silly and fake, and yet some elected officials were unironically citing that flyer yesterday to justify creating hysteria and panic about protests + deploying the NYPD against New Yorkers rightly rallying in the streets. What a failure of leadership.
Quote Tweet
An obviously fake flyer was sent to a Copwatcher in NYC by a now-deleted account calling for people to protest outside every precinct & to bring rocks, kerosene, a knife “or other tool to free unlawfully detained comrades.” Everyone plainly recognized it as a ridiculous joke.

All five officers who murdered Tyre Nichols are currently out on bond, while (in New York) a cash-poor, legally innocent person who commits a far less severe, bail-eligible offense is locked up on Rikers Island until their trial, which could take years. This isn't public safety.

Many years of mass incarceration and enormous police budgets have not made our communities safer. Instead, this system has threatened and violently taken Black lives with impunity, while social problems persist. We need to invest in our communities' needs instead of in oppression

The video is so bad they fired and charged the cops involved.
It’s so bad they’re preparing for rioting.
It’s so bad the police chief has a message out saying she understands the outrage.
