Manchin and others are focusing on these top line numbers because they are abstractions. It’s a lot easier to say: I support 1.5 trillion but not 2 trillion than saying I don’t want families to have paid leave because private equity managers should keep their tax loophole
I wish someone would specifically ask him about affordable child care. Does he think providing childcare so people can work is an entitlement?
