In other words, Facebook was happy to break it's rules to run Trump ads and only removed them when it was caught.

Why tf does is take a non-Facebook employee conducting oversight on their own time to effect a change. Smdh, Facebook is the worst.
The Trump Campaign (Donald J Trump Inc.) and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee are both running the same ads via Trump's FB page. Isn't that some sort of illegal campaign coordination?

Healthcare, LGBTQ rights, tax cuts for the middle class, Coal, steel, Flint water, infrastructure.... Ok.
Proving that at long last they'll do the right thing if the wrongdoing is well publicized, evokes a strong public backlash, and the potential political fallout demonstrates that they must. Yay, corporate morality.
The rule seems more about keeping Facebook users from being creeped out by the reality of FB's targeting options than about ethical motives, but it's still nice to see someone finally enforce their rules against Trump. (Next up: @Twitter? Yeah, probs not)
That's actually the more generous reading of how a rule like that gets made - the other scenario I can envision is some product manager with "IDENTITY POLITICS" written on a whiteboard under "Problems"
