    This isn't some great insight - it's been the obvious move, and the justification for all those "GOP insider expresses concern" stories for the last five years. The question was what it would take to make them break the glass.

    The endgame, I think, looks like this: the institutional GOP throws Trump, his family, and a small number of disposable enablers under the bus. That's bad news for Trump's hopes of avoiding prosecution. Having done that, they declare themselves fixed without further reform.
