Not so slow slide into 1650.
-
And all this time I thought it was the 1950s they wanted to go back to... I was so wrong...
-
More like 1830.

No, I don't think you've missed anything. Why is it that there's no mention of oversight? How could any responsible human being even write an article like that? HOW?

HOW? 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington, DC 20500

This makes me afraid that the impulse that gave rise to slavery is like the bacteria coming back to life in the unfrozen permafrost. What a country.

Migrant domestic workers (largely Filipino and African) accept low wages to work in places like Jordan, Saudi Arabia and China. They are frequently abused and not permitted to leave the house. If you don't believe that can happen here, you are naive beyond words.
-
its already happening..

I agree with you ... indenture is a polite way to call it. It calls for formalizing and expanding the disenfranchised, powerless class of servants into our society. It's going backwards, not forwards.

Would this plan allow you to buy more than one immigrant? Like, a factory's worth of immigrants, that would all live at the factory? Yeah, this is probably not the best way forward.
-
Yes, this "plan" says you can. But they think that corporations wouldn't take advantage of it, cause too much trouble. So it would be a great opportunity for a middleman to do it, then sell the cheap labor at a markup. Unregulated labor markets at their finest, I guess.

Who are these people and what the heck is happening in this world? I'm appalled that
@politico would even give them space - this really bothers me. Deeply horrified. -
Capitalism has always been an ugliness under the surface but the current political environment is ripe for venal accommodators procuring human commodities for wealthy rapacious predators and their appetites.
-
sure but this ...this is so blatant. I mean we know marketing flesh is WRONG actually totally repugnant. Right? I'm shaken that we live in a time, a climate that this can be promoted as a legit concept for consideration.
-
It's always been very close to this for domestic workers & nannies who are bound by the restrictions of specific types of visas. Case of abuse by employers are endemic.
