about 18 months ago did a little google search to see how easy it was to buy an orangutan, thankfully didn't find any, but there was an abundance of small monkey's, lizzards, sugar gliders & such like advertised in UK free pages, 1 woman in Birmingham was wanting to buy a raccoon

When they hold a consultation with a view to something, it usually happens - albeit at dinosaur speed. But indeed - it shouldn't need a consultation when a ban was in the Tory manifesto.

Are there any figures about the quoted increases in the number of primates needing to be rescued, or that there's any link between celebrities on social media and public wanting to keep animals? This does matter if we want an evidence-base to inform trade decisions.

Monkey World said it had taken 78 primates in the past decade, and 70 per cent of its intake had been since 2004, and over half in the past eight years.
