Let's talk about hearthstone esports and actually paying out prize money to players. It's been 2 months since playoffs and the players haven't been paid. Short thread:
Blizzard doesn't pay players promptly after events, many people have claimed that this is normal and it's true that many other organizations in esports have a poor track record when it comes to paying out money in a reasonable amount of time.
To give a comparison I've played competitive chess since 2002 and I can think of 1 or 2 tournaments I've played out of hundreds where they didn't cut the players checks (and fill out W-9s where needed) the same day the tournament finished.
How many people on the hearthstone esports team would go into the office if they were paid at a random time typically at least 90 days in the future?
For playoffs tax documents are collected from the players well before the event and the prizes are known the day the event finishes. If things were planned in advance, in theory, the money could be transferred the next day when banks are open.
This might seem unrealistic, but only because our expectations are set very low. Too many of the players playing Hearthstone this money matters, it affects their ability to fund their way to future events and continuing to support their competitive goals.
I know several players who are relying on playoff money to help fund their way to Las Vegas. This is just one of many areas where the interests of the players seem like they're never taken into account.
It's rly a shame! Was kinda scared to create a post like this, don't know why... But honestly, thats one of the main things that rly have to change!
Tried to contact them, didn't get any answer from the payments team... reached out to the support, PR manager and so on... Seems like nobody has anything to do with it!

The esports payments team was among the groups hit heavily by the layoffs, which likely caused additional delays in the processing for this event.
Naw it happens every time for playoffs (since 2016). Getting my payment for casting one time was even worse (almost 6 months)
