Thanks to all who’ve responded on Twitter. If you are finding this case interesting you may like to pre-order my new book on these issues, to be published next spring: It will include an analysis of the judgment in this case and the cases that led up to it

The current prosecutor spent six years considering whether UK troops committed war crimes in Iraq, but UK lawyers want her to concentrate on the big picture - Britain’s commitment to the rule of law - instead of micromanaging cases

I’m sure this is being factored in - legal challenge if successful would allow govt to say the fight against terrorism being hampered by human rights laws so let’s deal with them next

  6. Interesting question is whether is being used by government colleagues to take on the lawyers and, ultimately, the courts. I’m not doubting the need to stop dangerous prisoners being released but I suspect some may relish the prospect of a fight over human rights.

This is really interesting as an account of the kind of sexism women still encounter in many professional settings: genteel, mild-mannered, 'all-due-respect-to-X-but-she's-a-bit-scary/obsessive' sexism, which the man responsible might sincerely believe is not sexism at all

A frank and troubling piece by on Lord Hope's diaries and Lady Hale. A pretty clear illustration of the way the senior judges held her back. Neuberger's error of judgment was brushed aside, but she was much more harshly judged.
