This might be the most cursed image I've ever seenpic.twitter.com/CNlKjfXfhD

Guy on a stage at one of those big tech conference things.
Screen behind him says:
turn customers into fanatics
products into obsessions
employees into ambassadors
and brands into religions

Seriously. I think it's from Qualtrics a few years ago, and it feels like the push has mostly been a complete success. It wasn't just them, of course, it's a longer process that's led to worshiping brands, but I can't express how much I hate this.https://twitter.com/Qualtrics/status/950783235323244545?s=20 …

The thing I think about all the time is, are we presenting a substitute? If folks are drifting away from religion, if folks are making consumption their religion, we need to be presenting a better alternative. I don't have "the answer," of course, but we need to be working on it.

Like what are the rituals of adulthood here? Drinking? smoking? driving? What is sacred here? anything? It very much feels like time for some sort of humanist faith in one another and faith in our planet, nature, etc.
